Students'
Theatre Exposure Project (STEP)

In 1994, under the leadership of Wong May Lan,
the Student’s Theatre Exposure Project was
started, thus establishing The Theatre Practice
as the first theatre company to commit to theatre
training for the young. The project proved to
be successful as it saw much support from students
and teachers alike. It has instilled such great
confidence in educators that upon the exhaustion
of financial support provided by the Georgette
Chen Fund, the project was inducted as part of
the Arts Education Programme, managed by the National
Arts Council.
This Training programme has been enriched by
the expertise of Wong May Lan after her study
visit to Eastern Europe in June 2002. The company
aims to improve its content and to work closer
with the schools on their needs. This year, besides
bringing both English and Mandarin versions of
“The Coffin is too Big for the Hole”
and “The Day I Met the Prince” to
student audiences, STEP is also currently engaged
by numerous schools to conduct long and short-term
theatre courses for their students.
